About the Business
Vinyasa Yoga is a truly holistic system of fitness and wellness, incorporating dynamic postures, movement, breath and meditation. This form of yoga offers a range of health benefits as it encompasses both mind and body, building up heat in the body to cleanse and detox. In the West, the term "yoga" is typically associated with Hatha yoga and its asanas (postures) or as a form of exercise. The first teacher to actively teach yoga to a western audience was Swami Vivekananda, who toured Europe and the United States in the 1890s. In the 1960s, western interest in Indian spirituality reached its peak.
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yuj, meaning to yoke or tie. That is, to 'tie' mind and body together. The primary goal of yoga is self realisation. The sage Patanjali describes yoga as: The mastery and integration of the activities of mind. Then the seer, the Self rests in its true nature. At other times, it is identified with subtle thoughts.
